Specs are easy, shipping is the tax

A spec is a pleasure to write. It is all intent and no friction: every decision clean, every tradeoff theoretical. Then you try to ship it and the tax comes due: the edge cases, the dependency that won’t build, the thing that looked obvious on paper and is ambiguous in code.

The tax is the actual work. The spec just tells you what you’re paying for.
